public beta

Public Beta?

Hi, will ther be a public beta or CTP fpr Vista or do we need to subscribe to MSDN?
Thanks
Thomas

There may well be a public beta - if it ever reaches "Beta 2", not sure but there was word some time back (last year) that there will be a public beta.
Just sit tight and hope for the best!

In an interview, Jim Allchin said the plan is for a CPP release in April.

ahh, no, the plan is to have two phases of Beta 2, an Enterprise Community Technology Preview in the first Quarter in April then a Consumer Community Technology Preview in the second Quarter under which there will be a CPP of 2 million testers. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

How are the 2 million testers selected? I certainly would like to have the opportunity.

msdn is not the only way to get vista, there is also technet, and microsoft connect. also, there are several websites that are recruiting testers, http://microsoft.order-4.com/windowsvistabeta/ this is one of these sites, and has been confirmed legit by paul donnelly [ms]
there will probably be more slots open for this beta when the next build comes out, but dont quote me on this, its not a promise i can make. good luck to all potential beta testers. ben baker

Thanks for the information, but I found it does indicate a Technical Beta Program Nomination Code is needed after I entered my information. To get this code, it appears a membership is required.

I fully understand the difference. "Technical Beta Program: If you don’t have access to the CTP builds through your MSDN or TechNet subscriptions, you can register for the builds here. For those of you that have a CTP Technical Beta nomination code, we are reviewing*, and in most cases accepting, your requests to participate in the Technical Beta program..." taken from http://microsoft.order-4.com/windowsvistabeta/ As I mentioned, type in your information to register and it requires an invitation code, which appears to be obtainable IF you have a subscription.

your right, but you can get the invitation code by sending an email request, to the right people, cant tell you who that is, but if you look around enough youll find the info you need. check out connect.microsoft.com and look for any email addresses of people on the beta team, if they decide to give you an invite, they can. if your name is verbatim you are not welcome otherwise good luck to the rest of you

Thanks man. I did the beta test of 64bit and I loved it and I hope that I can get Vista now. I did a beta test of XP Pro and then 64bit and now I would love to get working on this version. This is one reason why I did a custom PC so that I have a setup right for beta testing with suppliers that work great with MS and drivers.

well, i hope to start seeing you guys in the posts in the non-public newsgroups.

When will more public betas be available and how can you get them if you haven't ever filled out any beta forms whatsoever?

Overall, they released 5 editions, however I reckon there'll be 8 at least. Let me throw some logic in this one - obviously the first 5, but then there's Starter 2007 which is the sixth, and I bet there'll be at least two "N" editions for the EU countries, of which I'm betting Home Premium and Business :o)

The N versions will have a near zero install base. They exist for political reasons only. While the Euro one world governement has demanded that Microsoft come out with N versions, you don't actually think any European is dumb enough to actuall install them? Last I heard the European OEMs simply do not use the N versions.

Nope.
It's political. No one wants it save some EU commission. The OEMs don't care for it [last I heard all of hardly any were installing it]. The consumers don't want it. It's a waste of of time imposed on Microsoft and their customers by a bunch of euro-ninnies.

Actually he's not doing too good what with his stroke and all. Once a person has been elected President, he's addressed as President for the rest of his life.

So I've heard. I always thought, in order to avoid confusion, it would make sense to bar anybody from office who had the same surname as a surviving president.

It's not compulsory and although we are happy to gain the economic benefits of membership we are still an island race. There are good reasons for embracing the Euro but politically it is very contentious. For many our currency is a symbol of our Britishness along with driving on the left, wearing socks with sandals and using deodorant.

Because nobody in England want's it basically. We've all become accustom to GBP and it's nice and simple - we all know that a loaf of decent bread costs 56p and a pint of milk costs round about 29p - so why bother screwing things up?

Socks and sandals? :-o Nobody under the age of 70 would do that!! And although there is 21 miles between the UK and France, that 21 miles really divides deodorant wearers and non-deodorant wearers ;o)

Nah, the only legal currency is Great British Pounds (or Pound Stirling... that basically --> £ )
You can use Euro's, but it's up to the person who you're paying on whether to accept it or not :o)
